Brazilian Stroganoff

Here’s what you need:

  • 1 1/2 lbs of beef sirloin or chicken breast (if using beef, be sure to get a good tender piece of meat, not stew meat)
  •  3-4 Tbsp olive oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • Nutmeg
  • Juice from 1/2 large lemon
  • 1/2 large, sweet onion diced
  • 1/2 small/medium red bell pepper
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 Tbsp tomato paste
  • 1/3-1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp mustard
  • 1 can of crème de leite (300 grams or about 10.5 ounces)
  • Batata Palha for garnish (this is a must have!)
Cut your meat into small pieces and put in a bowl. Add the olive oil, seasonings to taste and lemon juice. Stir and set aside to marinate.

Dice your onion and red bell pepper. Heat a small amount of oil in a medium saucepan and cook onion and pepper on med/high heat for 7-8 minutes until softened and translucent. Add your minced garlic and cook for 25-30 seconds stirring constantly so as not to burn the garlic.

Add the chicken (or beef) to the pan and cook for 8-10 minutes.

Add the water, tomato paste, ketchup, and mustard and stir to combine well. Cook over medium heat, bringing back to a low boil for about 5-7 minutes or until the meat is fully cooked. Now add your crème de leite and simmer for about 5 minutes until the sauce has thickened.

Serve over rice and garnish with the Batata Palha. Enjoy!

NOTE ~ Be sure to get the Crème de Leite and the Batata Palha from HI BRAZIL MARKET! It’s worth it to wait for those ingredients and they ship fast too!
